Fern Cave National Wildlife Refuge

Fern Cave NWR protects limestone bluffs, hemlock–mixed forest and one of the largest gray bat hibernacula in the eastern US. Photographers should focus on dramatic bluff silhouettes, river/forest landscapes, and, where permitted, dusk bat emergences (seasonal). Access to the cave is restricted by USFWS; much of the refuge is walk-in only with primitive parking on nearby roads.
