Best at dawn for bird activity and soft gold/blue hour light; spring and early summer for nesting herons, migratory songbirds and lush green tones. Access is free (Shirley Heinze preserves), limited parking — use the Heron Rookery lot for best trailhead. Trails can be overgrown and have poison ivy; wear boots, insect protection and expect uneven paths.
