Rae Lake Trail climbs into alpine terrain with an emerald mountain lake framed by jagged peaks and subalpine meadows — ideal for mirror reflections, wildflower foregrounds, and dramatic cloudscapes. Trail is moderately steep and unpaved; allow 3–5 hrs roundtrip. Best visited late spring–early fall for wildflowers and clear water; fall brings larch color. Start at dawn or dusk for golden hour, or night for star reflections. Limited roadside parking at the Sheep River Trailhead; no special permits
