Basecamp at Penelokan is the staging point for Mount Batur sunrise treks—photograph dramatic pre-dawn silhouettes of the volcanic rim, sunrise light spilling across the caldera and Lake Batur, and atmospheric cloud inversions. Best at 3–7am for sunrise and astrophotography; expect steep 1.5–2 hr climbs if continuing to the summit. Accessible by car with parking at the basecamp; guides and entry/park fees are customary.
