Ancient chalk barrows and rolling downland near Winchester offer low, sculpted earthworks, sweeping panoramic views and seasonal wildflower/ butterfly displays. Best spring–early summer for flowers and late summer/ autumn for warm low light. Visit at golden hour for long shadows across the mounds. Site is open access via Kennel Lane (no entry fee); park courteously on the lane or nearby car parks in Winchester and walk in. Stick to paths—it's a protected chalk grassland.
