Goose Lake
Small wetland preserve famed for nesting yellow-headed blackbirds and a variety of marsh species. Photograph birds from the observation deck and along the Hebron Trail. Best in late spring–early summer for breeding plumage and active songbirds; visit at sunrise or early morning for soft light and bird activity. Access is free; park on Seaman Road (≈0.25 mi north of IL‑173) and walk the Hebron Trail east. Note seasonal water levels — summers can be dry. Bring insect protection and quiet footwear.
