Best after spring rains or in fall for color. Visit early morning or late afternoon for soft side light and fewer hikers. Trailhead parking is limited at the forest access; expect a short hike on uneven, occasionally slippery trails. No special permits for day use in National Forest areas—wear boots and pack insect repellent
