The Jug is a rugged desert trailhead in the Salome Wilderness offering dramatic granite boulder clusters, open Sonoran Desert vistas, scattered cacti and seasonal wildflowers. Best for sunrise/sunset color and long-shadow compositions; cooler months (Oct–Apr) are ideal. Access is via A‑Cross Rd — parking is limited on a dirt turnout and a high‑clearance/4WD vehicle may be helpful after rain. No permit required on Tonto National Forest land.
