The West Woods is a 2,000-acre nature preserve of mature hardwood forest, stream ravines, seasonal waterfalls, spring wildflowers and vivid fall color—ideal for intimate forest scenes, long exposures of flowing water and macro floral shots. Trails are free with parking at the Nature Center; some paths are steep and uneven. Best light: sunrise/sunset for warm side-light in ravines, spring for blooms, fall for color, and winter for icy textures. Weekday mornings reduce crowds.
