Maritime forests, dunes, tidal creeks and the iconic Old Baldy lighthouse create layered compositions from intimate wildlife scenes to wide coastal vistas. Best at golden hour and during bird migration or low tide for exposed mudflats. Access requires the Bald Head Island ferry (book ahead); park at the Southport/Southport-Harbour Island terminal. Trails and boardwalks make much of the preserve walkable; expect golf carts on the island, bring bug spray and tide/forecast checks for seascapes.
