Small river island and riparian trails along the James River offering river vistas, braided channels, riffles, wooded shorelines and seasonal wildflowers and fall color. Great for long-exposure waterscapes, intimate forest scenes and birding. Park along Concord Turnpike; informal lot and short gravel trails—no fee. Best at sunrise or golden hour for warm side-light on water, and in spring/fall for foliage and migratory birds. Trails are mostly flat but uneven; expect ticks in summer.
