Big Thicket National Preserve
Big Thicket preserves mosaic swamp, bayous, ponds and mixed forest — great for intimate nature, reflection and wildlife shots. Photograph cypress knees, tannin-stained water, spring wildflowers and autumn color; early morning mist and golden hour give dramatic light. Trails and boardwalks (some accessible) lead to photo points; no entry fee but park at designated trailheads on FM 420. Summer brings mosquitoes and heat; spring and fall are best. Bring waterproof boots and insect repellent.
