A 3-mile rustic trail through woods along the Calumet River, famous for spring wildflowers (phlox), migratory songbirds and former great blue heron colonies. Best for early-morning bird activity and spring blooms; golden hour gives warm light on the river and understory. Two parking lots at opposite trail ends (east lot larger); display National Park pass on the windshield. No toilets on-trail. Mosquitoes/ticks possible—bring repellent and long clothing. Trail is well-marked but can be overgrown
